The Wiz provides the audience with a sneak peek into the lives of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The Lion - all with some "SOUL." It's a great reimagining of the original Wizard of Oz. After accidentally killing the Wicked Witch of the East upon her arrival, Dorothy is told about the Wiz (Richard Pryor), a wizard who can help her get back to Manhattan. When faced with sudden stardom and an overbearing mother (Minnie Driver), singer Noni (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) has trouble dealing with her success. Even the music is based off of traditional African music, which lends the movie a further sense of authenticity. The costumes, which represent different tribes in Africa, are all excellently designed, and nothing ever looks like an afterthought. While part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this film, directed by Ryan Coogler, is fresh and unique with a gripping plot and stellar performances from the whole cast. The sound and music of this game will be pretty much the same as Papa Louie 2 and Papa Louie 3, but the graphics will have a pixelated, retro style like Papa Louie 1 did. There is one more secret area after that, though. After defeating the bosses of the first six areas, the player gains access to Radley's fortress as the final area. When the player defeats a boss and obtains enough Warp Keys, two additional areas are unlocked. Each area is divided into three levels, with a boss at the end of the third level. However, the levels in this game are somewhat more linear, like in Papa Louie 1. EP 17 3 years ago Just You EP 11 3 years. Hey Dudes In honor of the 30th Anniversary of The Heroes in the Half Shell who are going to be returning to the big screen in a new feature next month I figure I rank my favorite episodes of their first Tv romp. After completing the main campaign of Black/White 2 you can even trade with trainers from the Diamond, Pearl, HeartGold, and SoulSilver versions, so your Ho-Oh, Dialga, Reshiram, and Kyurem can finally exist side-by-side.Īesthetically, Black/White 2 are almost exactly the same as their predecessors, right down to many of the same random sprites used repeatedly throughout the game. You’ll still need those annoying friend codes to jump directly into a match with a buddy, but thanks to the in-game Pal Pad, sharing your code and registering a friend’s is quick and easy. Since the game wasn’t released before I completed this review, I wasn’t able to find any random opponents online to battle, but jumping into the random battle room is as easy as ever. The Pokemon series has always made it easy to trade and battle with friends and strangers online, and Black and White 2 are no exception. On the other hand, Pokestar Studios, where you battle Pokemon in front of a green screen, is more of a distraction that slows down the pace of the game. Seeing those familiar faces is reason enough to keep coming back for more tournaments, but the thrill of progressing through the brackets and winning prizes is also a pretty good incentive. The single-elimination Pokemon World Tournament allows you to battle trainers from around Unova and even regions from the previous games, including Brock and Misty from Kanto. When you need a break from wandering from town to town in search of more gym badges, Black/White 2 offer additional activities not found in the first game. The plot itself is largely the same, but at least you’ll be able to pick up plenty of Pokemon along the way, including old favorites like Eevee, Riolu, and Mareep. The events of the previous game are mentioned frequently, and Team Plasma returns for another shot at taking over the Unova region and liberating its Pokemon. Additionally, you’ll have a chance to capture the black or white version of legendary Pokemon Kyurem, depending on which version of the game you prefer. All of the trainer gyms have been redesigned, some with new leaders, and there are a handful of towns that didn’t appear in the previous game. The Unova region has changed in the two years since Black/White took place, though you’ll still see plenty of familiar faces and locations. No matter how varied your favorites are, you’ll still find yourself needing to grind from time to time, but this happened a lot less frequently in Black/White 2 than previous games. Because the turn-based skirmishes feature the series’ trademark rock-paper-scissors balance of elemental strengths and weaknesses, the Pokemon you choose can put you at a huge advantage or disadvantage. Having the same starter Pokemon as the previous game is a little disappointing, but since Black and White 2 have even more Pokemon than its predecessors, it won’t be long until you’ve got a diverse roster of six creatures ready to battle. Despite the similarities from game to game, Nintendo has never released a direct sequel until Black and White Version 2, which retain all of the improvements from their predecessors but don’t do nearly as much to push the series forward. As the protagonist, a novice trainer about to embark on his or her journey to catch ’em all, you choose one of three starters (fire, water, or grass types), travel from town to town earning eight gym badges, battle the Elite Four, and take out an evil organization along the way. Since the release of Pokemon Red and Blue for the Game Boy in 1998, the series hasn’t changed much in its basic formula. I found it could handle many - but not all - proper names, product names, long words, addresses and phone numbers. In a test exercise suggested by Nuance, Dragon Dictate flawlessly handled the phrase “you were right to write me right now.” The program relies on context to decide what you meant to say, even if the words sound the same. And you can add words or pronunciations manually. You can teach the program about uncommon words you use by letting the program analyze documents you wrote. It worked pretty well, but wasn’t as accurate as real-time dictation.įor best results, you have to train Dragon Dictate before using it, by reading one of several canned texts. This new Mac version finally is able to transcribe audio files recorded on a digital voice recorder or an iPhone voice-recording app. But I was able to get decent results using a Dragon wireless-mic app on my iPhone and even using the built-in mic on the Mac laptop, either directly or via the tiny mic included in Apple’s standard earbuds. The included gear offers the greatest accuracy. Also, the Windows version allows you to navigate from link to link on a Web page, while the Mac version doesn’t.ĭragon comes with an over-the-head microphone and earpiece that connects instantly via USB, but it also works with many types of microphones. One of the deficits still lingering in the Mac version is it has fewer sets of application-specific commands than its Windows counterpart. You can say “File New” to open a new document or “Jump to Wall Street Journal” to open the Web browser and go to the Journal’s Web site. The latter means controlling menus and commands either common to the whole operating system or specific to a program you’re using. The Dragon software has many, many functions (the user manual is 207 pages), but you can boil it down to two: dictation and computer control. You also can’t use Apple’s dictation feature unless you’re connected to the Internet, while Dragon works right on the computer. But they don’t match Dragon’s voice command set. Macs do have a feature that make a limited number of spoken computer commands available. First, Apple’s dictation doesn’t allow you to command the computer, or edit by voice. So why choose a $200 program? Especially since Apple recently added free built-in dictation to the Mac. The software would be a good choice for people who are disabled and can’t type, or even those prone to mild repetitive stress injuries. For example, you need to say “File Open” as it won’t respond to “Open File.” So you’d need a good reason to make that investment in money and time. It could take weeks or months to remember and master the specific wording of each of the many commands. By that I mean it’s relatively costly, at $200, and requires time to learn how to use. Based on my tests, I can say that Dragon Dictate 3, and by extension Dragon NaturallySpeaking, are quite accurate. I chose to test the Mac version because it can finally do some things formerly limited to Windows, such as selecting a single word by voice for correction or deletion or formatting. Dragon Dictate uses a small window to show its status and often displays two larger windows, one with available commands and one with alternate spellingsĭespite some feature differences, the two versions use the same improved voice-recognition engine, so the company said my experience on the Mac would be a good indicator of its Windows product’s performance. Sony moved away from backward compatibility after the initial batch of PS3s, and PS4 couldn't play any games from the older consoles - so that 2008 copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 will remain on your shelf until the world goes cold. If you want to play those dusty old original PlayStation, PS2 or PS3 discs, you're out of luck. You might want to hold onto your PS3 to play games from its library. So far, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are confirmed to have save transfers if you upgrade to the PS5 versions. From bachelor party hi-jinks to getting in trouble for bad grades to hearing rumors around town about Sims who cheat on their spouses, hilarity ensues when new. Player can make work on a career, build or buy a house, build relationships with other characters, have pets. User must take care of needs of the person, such as hunger, hygiene, energy. It's highly unlikely that any developer will decide not to give you the power to transfer. Sims 3 is a simulation game where the player creates and controls a character called a Sim, and is able to set challenges. However, it warned that the ability to transfer game saves between a PS4 version and a PS5 version of the same game is down to the developer, and it'll vary with cross-gen games. You'll have to make sure the latest save is backed up to the cloud from your PS4 and manually download it on your PS5 - hopefully a future update will make the PS5 automatically detect and download cloud saves once a game is installed. The cloud storage method is the simplest approach, but it's a little fiddly. "And if you are a PS Plus member, you can also sync PS4 game saves on PS5 through cloud storage." If you've already stored PS4 games and game data in the external USB storage device connected to your PS4, you can bring them over to PS5 with that external USB storage device," the company said in an Oct. "You can transfer digital games, game data, and game saves from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using LAN cables, or by connecting wirelessly (Wi-Fi). Lastly, game saves will not transfer to Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S but once created on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, the game saves can transfer to other Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S consoles through the cloud. It's possible to continue your PS4 adventures on the new console, and Sony has confirmed a few methods of transferring your saves. There are no Xbox achievements for Original Xbox games because this functionality was not available on the Original Xbox at that time of its release. With system-link (if game supports the feature), you can play with others across Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S consoles. However, offline multiplayer scenarios such as co-op, party scenarios (multiple controller on one console), and system-link are supported if they were supported on the Original Xbox. Since these are the original games, not remasters, Xbox Live services such as online multiplayer and in-game marketplaces that were available on the Original Xbox, will not be available. For gamers on the go, Origin services are also available on your mobile device If you already have an EA Account, you can log in to with your EA ID to create a persona name for The Sims 3 Community. Consider a Weller Xcelite 170MN or a Hakko CHP-170įor mini needle nose pliers, you can use whatever is cheapest. The cutting edges need to be sharp and line up perfectly to cut through heavier connector leads, and the steel needs to be high quality so the cutting edge doesn’t dent. I do mean a good pair – a cheap pair is next to useless. Side cutters like the ones above are handy, but a good pair of flush trim cutters are well worth having. When you need to trim a wire soldered to a board, or the leads of through-hole components/connectors nothing beats flush trim cutters. You might think if you’re just working on microelectronics, you can skip these, but you’ll be looking for them after a day or two!īuy from: hardware store, electronics tool suppliers, electricians suppliers A good set will include needle nose, side cutters, and linesman/combination pliers. If you’re dealing with mains voltages, the quality insulation may save your life. Like screwdrivers, the German tools are going to have better quality steel and better fit of the jaws. Once again, forget the cheap options and stick with the German tools like Wera, Wiha, Felo or Knipex. When buying, make sure the set goes down to at least size 0, having hex and Torx is very handy too.īuy from: hardware stores, electronics tool suppliers, electricians suppliers You can find these at most hardware stores and electronics tools suppliers. If you are working with mains voltages, a quality set of VDE drivers may save your life over a cheap no-name brand set. The quality of the steel and laser etched tips means they last much longer and do less damage to fasteners. At a minimum, you want the straight needle pointed (#10) and curved needle pointed (#15 or #17)įorget the cheap screwdrivers, go straight for Wera Kraftform or Wiha drivers. A set of these from eBay/Amazon will be cheaper than a single one from an electronics supplier, and you won’t be able to tell the difference between the cheap ones and expensive ones. These make placing small SMT components when soldering or pulling them from the board very easy. Put heat shrink over the jaws to protect wire insulation and boards. Opt for the third alligator clips over a magnifying glass. Super handy for holding wires, boards, and components. Helping Hands (without a magnifying glass) Whether you’re working on aerospace components or assembling your first PCB, everything here will apply to you. These are the components and tools I feel everyone should have on their desk. I generally won’t buy or recommend something just because a specific brand makes it, as I care much more about the right tool for the job. When it comes to testing equipment for example, it’s because the brand is offering the best specifications for the money in that market segment. I’m very hesitant to recommend specific brands, but if I occasionally do so, it is because I have tried many of the competing brands and wouldn’t use anything else. All options are based on what I’d expect to see in the hands of the target audience the suggestions focus on total performance and capabilities per dollar, including wages where relevant, rather than just trying to spend lots of money (for the higher end options) or spend the least money (for the low-end option). A serious hobbyist with a little more money to dedicate for a good tool might look at the middle option rather than the budget one. A professional will be more efficient with the mid or upper range of tools, which are more expensive but pay for themselves in labor savings. The budget option will be useful for students and hobbyists, but probably doesn’t have the performance, or perhaps ease of use, for a professional. If you’re designing and building products even if they are only for your own usage, however, I think you’ll find yourself with everything here eventually, even as a hobbyist or an electronics engineering student. If you’re just getting started in electronics as a hobby, everything on this list might be slightly overkill it’s a lot of tools and hardware. You’re working with microcontrollers, FPGAs or other digital processors where code and hardware need to be debugged together. You’re hand building and reworking prototypes in-house.You’re primarily working on digital electronics, not radio modules or high-end audio. The equipment selected here comes with the following assumptions: I’m going to try to cover a range of budgets in this article, so whether you are a hobbyist, a large company/organization looking to expand into cutting edge electronics, or somewhere in between, you will find what you need for setting up a new lab from scratch. Some of these have been on very tight budgets, while others I’ve had a couple of million dollars to play with. Having moved country multiple times, and having worked at several companies (or divisions of) without a strong electronics engineering team, I’ve had to set up more than a couple of electronics labs for myself and my clients. McDevitt says he’s “never been more excited” to be building stories for the series. Darby McDevitt, a key storytelling voice in many of the series’ modern iterations, has announced his return to Ubisoft and the Assassin’s Creed series.
Technically, "4K" means a horizontal resolution of 4,096 pixels. One potential source of confusion is that 4K means something different whether you're talking about a TV in your home, or a projector in a theater. Those TVs, along with Ultra HD Blu-ray, and nearly all UHD streaming content from Netflix, Amazon and others, is 3,840x2,160 resolution. When it comes to TVs, 4K and Ultra HD (or UHD) are referring to the same resolution. That said, it's still worth understanding the various resolutions used by TV makers and others. A TV with better high dynamic range (HDR) performance, a better overall contrast ratio or better color will look better than one that just has more pixels. It might, but not always, and for reasons that have little to do with resolution. Just because a TV has higher resolution than another, doesn't always mean it looks better. However, resolution is not the most important ingredient in picture quality. Resolution is one of the most common specifications used to sell TVs, partly because "4K" and "8K" sound really high-tech and impressive. Here Senior Managing Editor David Katzmaier counts every pixel on an 8K TV. You'll have to look very closely, or whip out a magnifying glass, to discern each one. And the newest, largest and most ridiculously expensive TVs have over 33 million pixels ( 8K). Even newer and bigger TVs (typically 50 inches and above, although numerous smaller sizes too) have 8 million (for 4K Ultra HD). More recent and slightly larger TVs (typically 49 inches and smaller) have a little over 2 million pixels (1080p). Older TVs, and many 32-inch models sold today, have a million or so pixels (720p). There are numerous resolutions found on flat-panel TVs. A single pixel, or discrete picture element, consists of a tiny dot on the screen. Resolution, in terms of TV hardware, refers to the number of pixels that compose the picture on the TV. Still have questions? Let's start with the basics.
